Community Capital Fund: Paint it up! Community Murals to Brighten Up Caldwell Community
Share this story
A series of three murals will bring a spot of added colour to the Caldwell community, thanks to Crime Prevention Ottawa’s Paint it Up Program funding and OCH’s Community Capital Fund.
The idea for the mural resulted from a Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design – safety audit completed in 2021 to prevent graffiti.
The concepts for three murals were informed by consultations with young people in the community during bike safety clinics and outreach at parks. Bristol boards were given to youth groups and left at drop-ins in the community. The Carlington Community Health Centre’s Health Promotion Team provided support on consulting and assisting during painting days.
Using feedback from residents, artists Kseniya Tsoy and Stephanie Babij – who work with Multicultural Arts for Schools and Communities, painted the murals with help from community members from July 24-29.
